Wrightsville map Wrightsville is a town in York County, PA, across the Susquehanna River from Columbia, PA. The Susquehanna is North America's longest non-navigable river. There's an old joke in Pennsylvania that the name "Susquehanna" means "mile wide, foot deep". It's actually named for the Susquehanna Indians who lived in the area. They were an offshoot of the New York Iroquois Indians. The name means "people of the falls", which is just as bad for navigation.

Raft piloting on the Susquehanna

From this newspaper clipping in the York Gazette, we know that Henry Flury was piloting rafts down the Susquehanna. It says: On Wednesday last, one of our oldest river pilots, Mr. Henry Fluryhad three of his fingers injured by their being caught between a rope and a post used in stubbing or stopping Rafts at Columbia. The nail and part of one of fingers was torn off. newspaper clipping
